As I'm sure you've already heard, in mid-september of last year, a plane carrying Travis Barker and DJ AM crashed along the outskirts of the Columbia Metropolitain Airport in South Carolina. According to CBS news, four of the six passengers on board were killed in the crash. Barker and DJ AM were fortunate enough to walk away with their lives.
Barker has recovered rather quickly for someone who narrowly escaped the grips of death, and dove right back into the music industry. Barker and DJ AM, I would have to imagine, became good friends after their life-altering air ride, and have been playing shows together recently. They've had shows all over the west coast in the past few weeks, proving true to the lyrics of one of Barker's songs, "a little death makes life more meaningful." So to all those +44 fans, your probably wondering, what does this mean for the band? While there's no talk of a break-up, there isn't much optimism on the horizon either.
In a recent interview with mtv, Mark Hoppus has revealed that he "..didn't really know how to say what was going to happen," in respects to the future of +44. He says he's got this whole solo-project in the works, which seems to be the trend with the members of this band since Travis Barker is doing his own thing with DJ AM. In other words, the band doesn't seem to be their top priority at this point. Fans, including myself, aren't sure if they should be skeptical or open-minded with this information.
Admitedly, I wouldn't be too surprised if the band decided to call it quits. Their revenue from the first album wasn't exactly ground-breaking. Their fan-base isn't nearly as wide-ranged as Angels and Airwaves' is [another spin-off of the blink-182 break-up.] To top it off, their songs sound like a more depressed version of blink. However, they are great band and I will always respect the work they do.
So you tell me, mark & travis, will +44 be there when my heart stops beating?
